<John>

He disagrees with this idea. In Apollon, there is a cleaning day called '' Sunflower Cleaning Day '', which people clean Apollon island once a three months. If we remove all trash cans from the road, someone will throw away their trash on the road depending on the day.

<Vinnie>

She also disagrees with this idea because it's annoying to have to take the trash home.

<Anne>

She agrees with this idea to reduce the work burden of garbage collectors. Removing the road trash cans, they only need to collect household waste.

<Bella>

agree with the idea because we have to concider the environment. I guess that the existance of trash cans make it easier to reduce trash. As a result, the amount of trash increase, and when they are burned, greenhouse gases emiition increase.

<Bell>

She also agrees with the idea because trash cans are convenient, but they make the cityscape worse. The trash can should be eliminated so that people will be aware that they will take their garbage home with them.

Questions between members

1. Sunflower Cleaning Day is not just a day when we only correct trash which is thrown away! (Anne)

→ There are definitely some people who litter, right? (John)

→ According to the manifesto, people who litter are fined, so few people litter on the roadside. (Anne)

2.  I think it's commen sense as a human to bring back your trash that you created yourself. (Bella)

→ That's true, but I think people who don't have that common sense will litter.(Vinnie)

→ I'd like to change those people's mind by creating an environment or situation where they have to bring back their trash. (Bella)

3. If it is decided to abolish the trash can, when and who will collect it? (John)

→ How about collecting them together on the next Sunflower Cleaning Day? (Bell)

→ It sounds good because it doesn't rely on the government. (Ghosn)

4. If there is no trash can outside, I think people will throw trash in the trash cans of unrelated stores. That would be a problem for the store clerk. (Vinnie)

→  How about losing trash can in shops which customers can use freely? For example, if people buy some hamburger and juice at a A shop, and then produce some garbage, we have to give them to the staff at A shop. It means that you can't throw away your trash at B or C shop. (Bella)

→ It is good idea. We can make it harder to throw the trash in a different store. (Vinnie)

5. We should be more aware of garbage disposal. People tend to think that it is okay to get dirty when they are in a dirty environment or when they see the trash can overflowing with garbage. (Bell)

→ What exactly is consciousness building? (Vinnie)

→ For example, how about changing the Sunflower Cleaning Day from once every three months to once a month? I think it raises the awareness of the residents.

Questions From the Audience

1. I think there is a high possibility that the garbage from take-out products will be littered.(Marie)

→ As I said, those people are fined if they are found. (John)

→ Who and how are they monitoring such people? (Marie)

→ I don't know because it's a rule decided by my seniors, but I think that it will probably use surveillance cameras because they are installed in various places. (John)

2.  Do I have to bring the vending machine bottle home? I often drink it up soon, so I want to get rid of the bottle. (Ghosn)

→ Yes, you have to bring it home and throw away in your home. If we leave only the trash can next to the vending machine, everyone will throw the trash there. (Vinnie)

3.  Where do tourists throw their trash? (Nancy)

→ Throw it away at the store they bought it, or take it back to the accommodation where they stay and have it thrown away. (Bella)

4. As a result of the trial period, people found the trash cans useful, so they were installed. Why do you want to reduce such a useful things? (Peter)

→ After installing the trash can, the amount of trash has increased. I want to reduce it to reduce garbage and to protect the landscape. (Anne)

5. So far, we have implemented both positive and negative measures against the garbage problem. However, it is strange that the garbage is not reduced. Where do you think the garbage comes from? And why do you think your proposal can solve the garbage problem?  (Robert)

→ I think littering is being done by people who don't know how to sort. (Anne)

6. How about ecofriendly materials of various goods? (Peter)

→ We want to do what we can, without relying on the government. It costs money to change all the materials of various things to be eco-friendly. As a step toward that, I believe that reducing the number of trash cans reduces the amount of garbage. (Bella)

6. What do you do with the removed trash can? Will it be burned or recycled? (Lily)

→ The trash can is made of plastic and can be recycled. (John)

7.  Is participation in Sunflower Cleaning Day obligatory? (Nancy)

→ Not obligatory. However, many citizens participate because they can receive benefits if they participate. (Vinnie)

8.  As the trash can runs out, more people will litter, and I think there will be more people who can't be identified by surveillance cameras. (Olivia)

→ We cannot punish all such people, but this situation will not change unless we do nothing. (Bella)

Result

We can't reach the consensus.

My Opinion

I was disappointed that I couldn't convince everyone. In this time, I believed that I was able to make concreat reasons and suggestions compared with last our discussion, so next time I would like to give an opinion that will be more convincing.

  1. They are going to fine people for littering, but it won't be easy to catch all the people who litter, and I fear that they will eventually turn a blind eye to it. If you really want to get rid of trash cans from the city, why don't you seriously aim to beautify the city before suppressing them with laws?

  2. I thought that your opinion didn’t include details. It is a problem because only you stated about environmental problem, so you need to insist on your opinion more passionately. If you do this, audience and the opposite will think that the problem needs to be solved. I am looking forward to your next discussion!

  3. I think your first opinion is a bit weak as an argument for agreeing with it. The reason is that I don't know if abolishing trash cans will reduce the total amount of trash. Therefore, I thought it would be more persuasive if you prepared a more concrete opinion.

  4. You tried to answer the question politely, but your opinion such as littering wasn’t persuasive. This is a problem because people who disagree with the topic may don’t change their thought. You should think the details of your thought from a different perspective. If you do so, your idea will be stronger.

  5. You saw the content from several angles and felt well prepared. Though, you are sometimes trying to push through your opinions, and I thought that a new perspective was created if you flexibly changed the opinions you received. This will make it clear how you want to improve Apollon and make it easier to empathize with it!

  6. You tried to answer the question and tell your opinion immediately, but I don't know why removing trash cans are good for Apollon's environment, so please your thought and idea will be stronger. Thank you.

  7. You seemed to be pushing your opinion simply for consensus. This was a little problem because this discussion is aimed at making Apollon better. You shouldn't just get caught up in consensus. By accepting the opinions of others well, your idea and suggestions will be more beneficial to Apollon.

  8. I thought you showed many ideas but they mismatched with Apollon's course, tourism. It wholly caused your ideas' weakness. Your discussion was preceded in the direction of removing all trash cans, but you should have had more broad views, except just about the topic. If you do so, you and your member can find some new ideas or the same idea with persuasive reason.

  9. I though you could answer a lot of questions and I agreed some of your new ideas but the details were not enough. So, you should think the contents of your suggestion more deeply and have strong will. If you do so, you can contribute the discussion more and more.

  10. I understand your opinion, but the problem is that the theory you claim is not convincing to everyone. The reason is that I don't think the audience will be convinced unless everyone insists on a theory that is easy to convince. You should think more realistically. That way, the audience will be convinced of your theory. Thank you.

  11. You had a lot of ideas, but sometimes they were vague. This may not get your approval. You should add a detailed explanation for each idea. That way, people will understand your ideas.

  12. I thought that you should add more detail to your first claim. This is a problem because some people are not familiar with environmental issues and can't imagine how big the impact is. To solve this problem, I propose that you explain your opinion with specific numbers. By doing so, more people can easily imagine the importance of environmental issues and sympathize your opinion.

  13. In the second half of the discussion you answered so many questions, but I think you spent too much time to think. Rather than taking too much time, I think you can get help from others or ask the questioner to explain with more details.
